New Cholesterol
Guidelines Published

One out of every two men, and one out of every three women, will develop heart disease sometime in their life. Lowering cholesterol is a proven way to decrease the risk for a heart attack.

The Third Report of the Expert Panel on Detection, Evaluation, and Treatment of High Blood Cholesterol in Adults (Adult Treatment Panel III [ATP III]) constitutes the National Cholesterol Education Program's (NCEP) updated clinical guidelines for cholesterol testing and management. The ATP III guidelines, which provide evidence-based recommendations, build on previous ATP reports and expand the indications for intensive cholesterol-lowering therapy in clinical practice.
