Celebrate with The Heart Truth® Throughout American Heart Month

The Heart Truth logoThis February, join the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute's (NHLBI's) The Heart Truth® campaign to raise awareness of the #1 killer of women—heart disease.

National Wear Red Day®—"Rally to Wear Red and Protect Your Heart"

On Friday, February 4, Americans nationwide will take women's health to heart by wearing red to show their support for women's heart disease awareness. Will you participate? Rally those in your community, work, or places of worship to wear red—and then snap a picture! We encourage you to upload your picture to The Heart Truth® campaign's Facebook page. On Monday, February 7, we will choose one photo to be featured on the NHLBI Web site! For more information, please visit The Heart Truth® Facebook page.

Collection Celebrity Fashion Show

It's the celebrity fashion show of New York's Fashion Week and now you too can be among the exclusive audience to watch your favorite stars strut down the runway to promote heart health. Bid for tickets to be there on February 9 to see one-of-a-kind red dresses, created by some of America's top fashion designers especially for The Heart Truth's 2011 Red Dress Collection Fashion Show, to help raise awareness of heart disease in women.

Designed to warn women of their #1 health threat, The Heart Truth® created and introduced The Red Dress® as the national symbol for women and heart disease awareness in 2002, to deliver an urgent wake-up call to American women. The Red Dress® reminds women of the need to protect their heart health and inspires them to take action.

Two tickets* are being auctioned online for The Heart Truth's 2011 Red Dress Collection Fashion Show. Auction proceeds benefit the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health and will be used to further efforts related to women's heart health awareness and research. The Red Dress Collection Hits the Runway During Fashion Week

More than 20 celebrity participants will showcase the power of The Red Dress® to encourage women to take action to protect their heart health. Featuring nearly 70 top fashion houses and 150 celebrities since its inception, this annual event—made possible through a groundbreaking partnership with the fashion industry—has helped establish The Red Dress® as one of the most recognizable health symbols in the country.

This year's Red Dress Collection is presented by Diet Coke with national sponsor Swarovski and partners Bobbi Brown Cosmetics and AOL.

In addition to sponsoring the fashion show, each organization is encouraging better heart health in 2011 through a variety of initiatives, including advertorials highlighting heart health; product packaging that includes heart health information; Web sites and materials offering tips; and much more. Special Briefing on Women's Heart Health

Dr. Susan ShurinDr. Susan Shurin, Acting Director of the NHLBI, Dr. Sharonne Hayes, Director of the Women's Heart Clinic at Mayo Clinic, and Pat Mitchell, President and CEO of The Paley Center for Media, will host a special panel discussion, In the Prime of Her Life: An Update on Women and Cardiovascular Disease, at the Paley Center for Media in New York City on February 8, 2011, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

In the Prime of Her Life will provide in-depth information on the research, medicine and trends behind the headlines. Experts from Mayo Clinic, the NHLBI, and other academic medical centers will participate in two moderated expert panel discussions: "What Ails the Young Woman's Heart?" and "What Troubles the 50-plus Woman's Heart?"
