Breathe Easier This Month

COPD Awareness Month is here! What are you doing to help raise awareness about COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) in your community? The NHLBI has some ideas and information (below) to get you started. Visit http://www.LearnAboutCOPD.org for more tools and resources.

Host a COPD Awareness Month Event

Using these two materials together is an easy way to host a COPD Awareness Month event. The COPD DVD is a useful tool for educating those at risk for the disease and includes a helpful companion guide for moderators. The DVD answers basic questions about the disease and its risk factors, and demonstrates how real people have taken steps to manage the disease and breathe easier. Also distribute the easy-to-read Are You At Risk? fact sheet, which provides a snapshot of COPD for people who might be at risk. It defines the disease, identifies who is at risk, and describes the symptoms.
