It's a new decade, and with it come many new developments from We Can!® partners and community sites, and lots of great coverage of the program by media nationwide thanks to a three-stop tour by a soccer star, Tab Ramos, on our behalf.
Hopefully the stories you read here—and the new tip sheets and news articles we just posted online for you—will give you and your family enough energy to roll all the way into the great outdoor physical activities that spring brings.
And remember, if you have news or success stories that you would like to share with us to help trigger new ideas for the We Can! families or programming in the upcoming seasons, remember to fill out our Community Event Reporting Form.

As we head into our fifth year of operation,
We Can! just keeps growing. We're up to 1,225 registered sites across the country and in 11 other countries. And that count includes 18 We Can! Cities and Counties—another number that just keeps rising.

A lot of these community sites have some really exciting activities taking place. Take a look at—and get inspired by—some of the latest happenings:
Supported by We Can! partner SUBWAY® restaurants, over the course of 2010 our communities will be offering several We Can! regional trainings on our program and its curricula. Take a look to see if there's one in your neighborhood.

Olympic soccer star Tab Ramos recently reached out to children, parents, and the media with messages about healthy eating, physical activity, and reducing screen time through an event tour—in English and Spanish—that attracted media coverage in Atlanta, Houston, and San Diego.

A We Can! partner in the home of the Steelers makes a can't-miss play by identifying and teaming up with a strong local community group that uses its two downtown centers to reach folks who need guidance on how to live healthier lifestyles.
You might be familiar with CATCH Kids Club, one of the three We Can! core curricula. But have you heard of FlagHouse, the corporation behind the scenes? As a We Can! partner, they have some fabulous plans to help spread the We Can! word.

Now that we’re about a month into the new decade‚ it may be a good time to do a check on how you’re doing with your New Year’s resolutions.
Have you started running out of steam when it comes to eating better and getting the whole family up and moving away from the TV or computer screens? Don’t despair‚ just keep reading for ways to get re-energized and get back on track (and then go check out the rest of our tip sheets for more):
Tip #1: Put it on paper! Use a family activity planner to make time each day for some type of physical activity for the whole family—use hand weights to play a round of Simon Says‚ or schedule time for family yoga. It will help keep you moving forward‚ literally and figuratively.
Tip #2: Speaking of schedules‚ keep to a regular eating schedule—and when you do eat, make sure to sit down and chew slowly.
Tip #3: "Comfort" foods are popular during winter‚ but these are often heavy and high in fat. When you’re cooking—or grocery shopping—try to cut back on use of fats or oils‚ and make better choices when you do use them. Avoid confusion with our new‚ easy-to-use‚
Fats and Oils to Choose tip sheet.

The holidays may be over, but the We Can! team is still in a gift-giving mood.
We Can! community sites are doing great work improving the health of their communities and helping the We Can! movement grow.
We recently posted new tip sheets and ready-made articles (to the resource page of our Web site) that you can click, print, and then tack up on your bulletin board, stick under a fridge magnet, or copy and hand out to your family and friends.
The fridge may be the best place to put a new sheet that offers advice on Sugar in Drinks. You might be surprised by what you find, especially when it comes to fruit juices! You can put it next to our easy-to-read Fats and Oils to Choose tip sheet, which shows you which ones you should choose more often.
Plus the new Make Physical Activity Fun tip sheet has you covered on ways to get the whole family up and moving.
