Subject: NHLBI Issues Request for Proposals

The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) has issued a new Request for Proposals under Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) BAA-HO-02-11.

This BAA is designed to establish designated NHLBI Enhanced Dissemination and Utilization Centers (EDUCs) dedicated to the enhanced application of existing science-based information in high-risk communities to:

Better inform their communities of the public health burden of cardiovascular disease (CVD), and

More effectively plan, develop, implement, and evaluate well-defined, focused, theory-based education intervention strategies aimed at reducing the burden of CVD through changes in health care provider practice behavior, patient behavior, and general public behavior related to the control of CVD and associated risk factors and the promotion of heart-healthy behaviors.

The CVD EDUCs initiative is a key strategy in NHLBI's efforts to achieve the Federal Government's Healthy People 2010 heart disease and stroke and related objectives. The CVD EDUCs comprise a nationwide network of committed centers dedicated to taking action to reduce unacceptable high rates of heart disease and stroke deaths in their communities.

The request is titled "National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) Enhanced Dissemination and Utilization Centers (EDUCs)."

It may be reviewed and downloaded at http://hp2010.nhlbihin.net/emails/educ_baa.htm

The proposal intent due date is March 15, 2002.

The proposal due date is April 15, 2002 at 4:00 PM Eastern Time.
