The NHLBI Diseases and Conditions Index (DCI) now offers video and quiz formats presenting information about heart, lung, and blood diseases and sleep disorders.

The videos include information about the causes, risk factors, signs and symptoms, and treatments related to a particular disease or condition. Experts from the NHLBI discuss how you can take action if you have or are at risk for one of these diseases or conditions. Spoken narration and text captions are provided.
Coronary Artery Disease
Coronary artery disease (CAD), also called coronary heart disease, is the most common type of heart disease. It’s the leading cause of death in the United States for both men and women. Lifestyle changes, medicines, and/or medical procedures can effectively prevent or treat CAD in most people.

Asthma
Asthma is a chronic (long-term) lung disease that inflames and narrows the airways. Asthma affects people of all ages, but it most often starts in childhood. In the United States, more than 22 million people are known to have asthma. With today’s knowledge and treatments, most people who have asthma are able to manage the disease.

The DCI now offers short quizzes online that allow you to test your knowledge on select heart, lung, blood, and sleep topics. Quizzes currently available include chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), sarcoidosis, and sickle cell anemia.
