News You Can Use

Schools Can Be Partners

We have heard that many groups are planning a school-based event for WAD '02 with the idea that having multiple groups conduct similar activities will increase the opportunities for local and national media coverage. This may be something that would work in your local community.

Arthur to Focus on Asthma

The Public Broadcasting System will air a special episode of "Arthur" - Busters Breathless -- that focuses on asthma on World Asthma Day, May 7, 2002. In fact, they have put it on the national air date schedule which means that any local PBS station (in any state) that airs Arthur on May 7 will receive the satellite feed of Buster's Breathless. Talk to your local PBS station about running it. See if they will partner with you on WAD.

Be a partner, Get Involved!

The NAEPP's World Asthma Day 2002 Web Site is now available.

The new theme for World Asthma Day (WAD) in the US is:

"Communities Working for Life and Breath."

On the WAD 2002 Web site, you will find new materials to help you implement and promote WAD in your community, including:

  • Sample WAD press release
  • WAD poster
  • Sample drop-in article for community newsletters

Please visit at your earliest convenience, register your activities, and download the materials.

We hope this information is helpful. Please contact us via our Web site if you have any questions and please do register. We plan to send the list of registered activities to national media in conjunction with WAD.
Thank you.
