Stay in Circulation, Take Steps to Learn About P.A.D.

Observe the First Annual "Stay in Circulation Week" with New Educational Materials

September 18 - 22, 2006 marks the launch of Stay in Circulation: Take Steps to Learn About P.A.D., a national campaign to increase awareness of peripheral arterial disease (P.A.D.). P.A.D. is a condition that develops when arteries in the legs become clogged with plaque, limiting the flow of blood. Though not well known, P.A.D. can raise the risk for heart attack and stroke.

The NHLBI has created a series of campaign materials and resources to help promote "Take Steps to Learn About P.A.D." during Stay in Circulation Week. You will find these tools in downloadable form on the new NHLBI P.A.D. website. In addition, pieces for public education can be ordered in printed or hard copy format.

Activity and Outreach Materials
The online Community Action Tool Kit offers tools, instructions, and resources to implement activities and events to raise awareness about P.A.D. in local communities. Materials are customizable to fit the needs of your organization. Health departments, hospitals, senior citizen clubs, and employers will all find information and ideas to use anytime during the year. The Tool Kit also contains downloadable files for promotional artwork and a slide show.

For Health Care Professionals
The PAD Coalition, a campaign partner, has guidance on the management and diagnosis of peripheral arterial disease on the professional section of its web site.

The campaign is sponsored by NHLBI in partnership with the P.A.D. Coalition, an alliance of more than 40 health organizations, vascular health societies, and government agencies united to raise public and professional awareness about P.A.D.
