Detect and Treat Risk Factors

Increase the percentage of patients who have their CVD risk factors detected and who implement lifestyle and/or pharmacologic intervention and successfully control their blood pressure and cholesterol levels and weight to prevent the development of CVD.

The objective of this project is to translate the "Clinical Guidelines on the Identification, Evaluation, and Treatment of Overweight and Obesity in Adults" into other formats appropriate for easy use by primary care physicians, nurses, nutritionists, pharmacists, and those in managed care.

This project will translate the "Clinical Guidelines on the Identification, Evaluation, and Treatment of Overweight and Obesity in Adults" into other formats appropriate for easy use by health care providers. In addition to completion of materials, the development of a comprehensive marketing plan will be integral in communicating this relevant message. This information should begin to influence practice behaviors of health care providers and ultimately lifestyle changes in their patients.

Patient information is included in the various products developed for health care providers. Additional information for patients is also being formatted for its dissemination. Strategies need to be determined as to how best market and disseminate the various products to the intended audiences in order to impact practice behaviors related to overweight and obesity, and ultimately to help reduce the prevalence of this serious public health problem.
